I use isinglass or Kwikclear in all my wines.

I can only get a small packet to clear two gallon and it works out dear.

I have found a site which is selling isinglass at £4-08 per 500ml, I have been paying £2-50 for 100 ml

Lockwood says "Kwik clear is two part finings..isinglass and gelatin that means Kwik-clear is just watered down isinglass

That is far from correct old un

its two part finings, added in two stages, a little time apart, one agent acting on positive charge particles and one agent working on negative charge particles, making them clump together and fall from suspension.

Isinglass is a good fining agent, but two part works much better than using isinglass on its own...try it and see.

                    regards

This sounds like chemistry to me....

Basically the first part collects all the little bits of clag together, then the second part collects all of the big lumps made from the first addition and pulls them together. These are heavy enough to fall out of soln.

Hence, Kiwk Clear works better than a one part fining.

This is a process known as floculation. It's routienely used to clean chunks of floating nasty out of sewage works, althoug the chemicals are different.

For red wines you can (and I have) also used egg white. Thats a right little floculator too.

PS DO NOT just pour egg white in!! There more to it than that!
