What is the best way to impart a vanilla flavour to a wine?

Was thinking about Vanilla pods as opposed to essence or extract

Well, I just buy a batch of vanilla pods from eBay, then split them with a knife and soak then in vodka. I had 100 pods in a half gallon of vodka, then if I want "proper" vanilla taste I add or to taste.

The vanilla pods were about a tenner.

Plus it can be used in cooking as well if you need to. A lot cheaper than those piddley little bottles.....

            that's a good idea John.

I bought one of the piddling little bottles full of brown runny extract. Works okay in the oaker but I couldn't add it to wine.
