I have a 5 litre demi john of Welch's purple grape juice on the go, everything is in except for the last litre of juice, I'm using three litres of juice. I think, always my downfall, I'll put some tannin in, maybe it'll help keep that lovely purple colour. So I put a light teaspoon in, sprinkle in some nutrient because I could not remember if I had put some in, so far so good. I go and get my long spoon, give it a stir and BANG! It turned into a year 8 special class science experiment. It came shooting out of the Demi John like a wine volcano. So um......what hapened?

A bit late now, but always best to draw some must off into a wide-necked container (e.g. a pyrex jug), carefully and progressively add the nutrient / sugar / whatever, then once dissolved, add CAREFULLY back to the main batch.Pete the Instructor
