  • Press bags

To bag or not to bag, that is the question.

I use a basket press, with oak staves.
If I press white I use a bag. (not very often then)

With red I do not - never have.

Previously I used a seive under the press sprout. And to be fair it caught some 1/2 dozen big bits, and generally got clogged up with finer stuff.

Yesterday I gave it a miss altogether when I pressed merlot. MLF is still underway. And yes I have a few floaters.

I will rack in about 3 -4 weeks time.

    Thoughts?

I generally have, though with net curtain material cut to size for reds. I have a home made basket press which is made from a roll of metal with holes in which someone gave to me.

I also have a home made rack and cloth press (made to your design) which used the net curtain.

For white I use muslin, again cut to size using the basket style press.

I guess it makes the pulp easier to remove.
