    Sugar

Do you think it makes a difference what type of sugar you use?

Cane Sugar, Beet Sugar Caster Sugar, plus one I saw in a brew shop brewing sugar?

Yup! Brew shop sugar upsets my inner Yorkshireman.
Silver spoon is from beet and does taste earthy. T&L is cane and is the best.

Make a sugar wine and you will we able to taste it for yourself.

It depends what you are making. If making beer, you should be using the brewing sugar because beer yeast does not handle more complex sugars well. If making wine, it doesn't really matter. Here in Canada, most people use the cheapest sugar available.

Steve I would say is doesn't matter toooo much in big red wine, but lighter more delicate wines can be affected.

For any brew - you can invert your own sugar by boiling with lemon juice/citric acid.
