Jars of grape molasses in Teso reduced. Any ideas if this is a good (and economical) substitute for sugar?

Absolutely not.
It is not a direct substitute for sugar. White refined (cane) sugar is quite neutral and typically adds very little to a wine or beer - other than alcohol.
Molasses is a strong flavoured dark sugar derivative. It adds colour and it also adds flavour.
You need to think of this as an ingredient.
Interesting this should come up, I am trialling it at the moment in ginger beer.Gluten free, caffeine free, dairy free, fat free – you gotta love this red wine diet!
