Dave - I store most of my bulk wines in PET carboys. The only method I have found of reliably of degassing is a combination of racking some out and rolling on a tennis ball placed under the carboy. No ill effects from that so far.

And I taste test for whether it is sufficiently degassed.

Dave - I am with Simon. Best bet is prolly to degas with a tennis ball.

HDPE will age the wine - not necessarily degass it. Another thought - if you bottling to lay down (not drink immed) with cork - they breathe. Degassing a bottle - if it is still a problem is as easy as giving it a shake !
