  • Wine from supermarket grapes

Just wondering , Does anyone make wine from supermarket, greengrocer grapes (red or white) or a combination of the two ? . What yeast would you use ?.
Anyone experimented with french oak granules with white wine, if so what kind of wine

Are you talkin about the big juicy grapes like Thompson? They don't make a good wine. Not sweet enough and very watery flavour.

    Good eating grapes though.

No eating grapes from the supermarket are for eating not for making wine. However some grapes are used for both eating and making wine - concord is one! (although making good concord wine is debatable). A white wine is "oaked" if the color of the wine is straw, yellow, yellow/gold, gold or yellow/brown. In addition to Chardonnay, other examples are white Burgundy from France and white Bordeaux from France.

An "unoaked" white wine is easy to spot because of its conspicuous absence of color. It is clear, pale yellow/green or perhaps a faint yellow. Examples of clear, unoaked whites are Pinot Grigio, Sancerre, Pinot Gris, Muscadet, Chablis Chardonnay, etc. Oaked white wines could include Chardonnays, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Ehrenfelser, Viogner and others.

I would search for wine grapes if you want to make wine out of grapes. For the Oak question the length of time the wine is in contact with the oak impacts the resulting taste; if using a barrel the type of barrel also makes a difference. Hope this helps. Our two residing barrel of information for grapes is Bob and Hippie is great with oak. Cheers

          I cant take it....lol

Supermarket Grapes will make fairly poor wine. They are mostly thompson seedless, nice to eat, but no good for wine.

The Italian Grapes will be here soon Mark

Been there with supermarket grapes, and as above just made a flabby tastless wine, which worked out expensive, 8 punnets gave me 2 bottles plus I had to add sugar to increase the sg.
