  • Grande Maison Reserve 1 gallon Gewurtztramer

    Anyone used this before?
Its half price at the moment because its sellby date runs out end of this month.

    Is it worth buying?

Will there be any problems with the sellby date running out this month?

It's unlikely that you will encounter problems with a sell by date that is only just past the date, worse case scenario is that the yeast Will be iffy, make up a yeast starter with it (see tutorial section) that will tell you if the yeast is good before you pitch it

at half price you just cant go wrong!

      I might buy them both

There are also some whisky and port stuff being sold half price also.

I'll take a picture and see if anyone wants anything

As this is my first wine kit i am unsure of one thing.

When i make my own wine within one day it is fermenting away like the preverbial train.
However this wine kit has frothed up and not really started fermentation yet.

Is this because when i added the yeast i also (as per instructions) added Bentonite (what is Bentonite?)

Or is it becuase the yeast was 1 week away from being out of its sellby date?

Answers on a postcard, or just reply here please

Bentonite won't cause a problem with the yeast it is a clearing aid. Did you make a yeast starter as suggested by Bob in the earlier post ? if so was it fermenting at that point ? When you state foaming but not fermenting, what gives you the impression it's not fermenting ?

It seems to be fermenting very slowly now so no worries
