  • winexpert vs beaverdale

    Dear wine kit conossieurs,

I'm thinking about a 23 litre red. Is the winexpert worth the extra cash over a beaverdale kit?

I want to do a merlot for my good lady cos she hates all the "fruit s**t" I make So far I've only used Beaverdale kits so have no experience with any others.
Please lend me your collective, considerable experiences...

I'd give one a go.. You'll be pleasantly surprised

If you can find one in stock, Winexpert brought out a ltd edition New Zealand Merlot this year, That'll be nice I'm sure!! Unfortunately they are pre order items, but you may be lucky!!

The bigger kits need a bit more ageing though I've found.

      Aid:

Winexpert has several product lines. From inexpensive (which i GUESS corresponds to Beaverdale) to premium to ultra-premium.

If you can get one of the NZ Merlots, that's what O would go with. I just did the stabilizing & clearing steps to mine this week.

          In my opinion, Yes.

I've tasted Beaverdale Barolo with a Winexpert Barolo, Whilst the Beaverdale was very drinkable and nice, the winexpert one had more body and depth of flavour to it I seem to remember.

It's still less than £3 a bottle, and worth making at least one (or once..). The ltd edition kits are even better value for money

          Rich

Edit: Just make sure you do it justice by giving it long enough to age, and don't drink it all within a couple of months of starting it!!

I would consider £70 excellent, given that I paid about $120 Cdn (£68) for mine, and the shipping to get it to the UK from Canada.

The WineExpert kits produce wines that are close and in some cases better than comercial £5 - £10 a bottle wines.

The cheaper W/E range is called Vintners Reserve and these are better than most of the Beaverdale range. Duffbeer has a Merlot on his web site.

The best value kit red is the Beaverdale Barolo, superb stuff.

I would also say that the WinExpert kits are better if aged...

Make a WinExpert now, then a Beaverdale to be "going on with". That way the WinExpert stuff will get a chance to age

Sigh... there's no need to show off just because you can manage to age things 3 years...

I know what you mean. Last week the wife and I polished off the very last bottle of '06 WE Yamhill Pinot Noir I had squirreled away (though there is still some '07 left). Positively outstanding!
