  • Chocolate Raspberry port tonight, yippee.

Edit: This is now a year old, and it's tasting really smooth. It had a slightly rough edge to it before. Only have a half bottle with me, which is unfortunate, as it'll soon be empty.

        • Hiya David, Yes it's a WE selection Choc Rasp port. made mine last year, bottled in half bottles about june time.

Tonight it's been some Tempranillo Cab Sav, (another WE ltd ed)

Maybe some black sambuca later, (to Biggles' recipe, with Fox's Dark and vodka..)

            • It was a good night for drinking here. Our winemaking club had their Christmas banquet this evening. Seven course dinner (entree was beef wellington) with wine pairings for each course. Most of the wine was fairly ho-hum, but a couple really stood out.

There was a Columbia Crest blend from Washington State that was terrific (and an excellent buy for $8). Sangiovese, Syrah, and Cab. More sangi than anything, though.

The other was Bonny Doon Vin de Glaciere, an ice wine knock-off made from Muscat. It sells for about $20 (for a split). A little on the pricey side, but I've had more expensive - and real - ice wines that weren't near as good as this one.

I had a bottle of last years apple/gooseberry sweetened to medium. Very fresh acidity, tum yum

                • I was at a Christmas party last night...
I had a glass of some commercial white
                  It desparately needed degassing.

                  I HAD to drink G & T after that

                  • I went to a Christmas thingy last night and had some commercial wines. I have no idea what they were, (waiters too posh to tell me - it was that sort of place), but I do know one thing - both red and white were bl00dy awful. The red tasted 'dead' and the white was just plain nasty.

If I couldn't make better than that I'd give up, but what really pee'd me off was the snooty waiters, so I won't know to avoid these wines in the future.
