  • Tonight I have been comparing Rich's Amerone with mine, one is WinExpert & the other is Kenridge amerone, both about 18 months old.
Hmmm well to be honest I think Rich's takes the edge, it is darker in colour, but also holds more tannins, it has a pleasant oaky finish that isn't overpowering. It's a pleasant drink overall which should improve with another 12 months under it's belt.
Mine was the WE Amerone, a pleasant wine, not much between the two, but thought this a little too oaky & lacked any other form of farewell.
To be honest, I prefered Rich's to mine, I felt it had the body and tanins to carry the oaky profile.
Mine was filtered at a very early stage, which I believe maybe stript is of some of the tannin needed in this wine, hey ho we live and learn

                            • Tonight Mrs. NorthernWiner and I started off with a nice commercial Merlot. It was a Frei Brothers Reserve from northern California. A little vegetal, IMO, but a good drink nevertheless. Went great with a grilled steak dinner on the deck.

Then we moved on to some of my homegrown Frontenac. I love this wine. No one outside of the US has probably heard of the grape - which I think is a real shame. When made in a lighter style it has a lovely funky and floral quality, with just a bit of spiciness, and smooth, silky tannins. Maybe a little like Burgundian style Pinot. About this time some friends stopped over, so we shared a teeny bit with them.

Now we're on to a dessert wine. Botrytis infected Chenin Blanc made from fresh pressed California juice.

As we were sitting there enjoying our wine, it started to rain, so we all huddled under an umbrella and watched a rainbow form.

Life just doesn't get much better.
