        • Finally checked out the new wine shop down the road (nice!) and bought myself a bottle of inexpensive Cotes-du-Rhone. Never had the brand before (Chapoutier), but the shelf tag said it scored 88 points. Must have been 88 out of a possible 1000 points, because it was bitter plonk.

Moral of the story: don't always believe shelf tags.

          • Tonight....a bottle of my 2006 grenache

not bad at all, maybe a little extra oak would be nice, and I think Grenache is a tad one dimensional, and really a blending wine, but quite as you defined Steve, a tad of ethyl acetate (nail varnish remover)

this is what happens when you dont monitor your sulphite levels!

            good call dude

                      • cheapskate rose (enjoyed just as much as ever) followed by the strangely moreish (moorish!?!) orange wine
To most people solutions mean answers. To chemists solutions are things that are mixed up.
A fine wine is a fine wine, 1st time may be by accident, 2nd time is by design - that's why you keep notes.

                          I've never done a 2nd run...how was it?

(I always throw the pulp away as it looks sooooo gross)

If you hadn't gone to sleep you would have been just fine....it's sleep that causes hangovers, honest! (I bet you felt just fine before you slept?)

                              Excellent (well, I think so).

(thanks Karl, 18 months ago, for persuading me to have a go).

It isn't in-your-face like many dessert wines. quite citric, reasonable body, balanced. It's a good alternative to the first run when you want something a bit more subtle. The nearest commercial equivalent I have found is Tesco White Port.

In fact I was thinking about sticking it in the next VWC comp, but I'm not sure if it is 'big' enough for a dessert wine.

                                You are sooooo right....
I was absolutely "tip top dancing and singing" alright before I went to sleep
The few hours sleep really, really did me in.
I am very impressed though. My only injury this year, is a small cut to my lip... please dont ask any details as to how I got that, for I have no clue
Last time I went out with them for an xmas night, I fell off of my high heels, and broke my hand
