  • Tidied up the vineyard yesterday evening. Looking (more or less) weed-free. Dandelions have been on the rampage this year.

Apologies for the dog nosing her way into almost every shot. She's a bit of a ham.

    • Nice. From picture 2, It looks like the dog is on rope and has run around the vineyard.

      • I'd better not post any pics of my vines until I get the weeding done

Note that I didn't post any "before" pics. It was fairly embarrassing.

          • Mine don't look that good even when I have weeded - well done Steve.

            • 5 gallons of WN 1 I started on 6 May and the final stages of ferment seem very slow. Gave it a bit more nutrient yesterday. I went just now and gave it a 'Full Doris' (that's a mean stare with both fists on hips) and it blooped at me. Impatient? Moi? SG just over 1.000. Tastes a little sweet for me.

give it a smidgeon more time it will get drier

                • Prepared a Lalvin D47 starter tonight as tomorrow I am starting a 5 gallon wine no.1 using my VWC comp gold award winning recipe. I want to prove to myself that it wasn't a fluke, that I can repeat it. The plan is to use 1 gallon to add some dandelion petals to and 2 gallons to add Elderflowers to all as late additions.

                  • Shoehorned 30 bottles of Grapefest Monte onto the racks.

Removed and cleaned another 20 bottles - a bottle of a mate's blackberry wine popped its cork and covered them with sticky goo. I know he lurks here occasionally so, Mr Wadely, are you reading this?

                    • I have been shamed into pruning by Steve's pics .

Mine look far more chaotic (so no pics). For some reason, most of the growth on some vines is from the centre, not from the canes, so all I have been able to do is select the strongest looking shoots and chop the rest.

I'm fed up of weeding so this autumn I'll strip the soil off the weed matting and put down stones.
