      • Speedy start

I said similar when I started the basic white wine (No 1) and I need to say it again.
I have just started the basic red wine (No. 2) and I am amazed how the yeast has taken off.
I have activity in the airlock within the hour. I am using a Gervin yeast (the A GV8 strain).
        Wow what a quick start.

That's the beauty of a yeast starter and a well balanced must.

Although the Apple wine tastes sweet, it is still fermenting... so I am not worried about that.

And the pineapple wines, tastes, well, pineappley .
It is still going, but slower..

So will leave both for another couple of days

            All thoughts welcome
Just racked and I am in the process of de gassing the pineapple wine.... It's SG has been at 0.996 for a few days now.
Will add the stabiliser when degassing is completed.

The apple one, is still at 1.002...so will give it another week to see what its at.

            • Yeast Question

I am just about to make Wine number 2

              I have a yeast question....

I have a sachet of Gervin wine yeast No. 2...
The lady in the homebrew shop said that I will be able to use one sachet for 2 separate gallons of wine, or one 5 gallon of wine.

Per the instructions in the tutorial, I think it means to add one sachet of yeast per gallon. Is this correct ??

I was going to make two gallons anyway, and I have two sachets... but if one will do the same job, then will use one.

              Thanks
              Carole

              • Yes 1 satchet will do both gallons, if you make a yeast starter then give it a little shake before adding 1/2 to one d/j and 1/2 to the other.

                  • Two DJ's of wine number 2 now on the go

SG's 1.082 and 1.083. One used Lidl grape juice the other used Tesco grape juice, respectively. Both had Tesco blueberry juice

                          Thanks guys

Just tested Wine number 1... the apple version.
SG is now 1.000... so it is still slowly dropping.
Will wait till Monday and see whats happening then.

                          • Ok.....

The pineapple wine is looking cloudy ...
So I need to add some finings..

                            Quick Question
Should I rack first then add the finings.... Or add the finings let it settle then rack ??

                            Thanks

                            • If you have loads of lees or sediment, do the first. If not, try the 2nd option.

                              Good luck !

Yes... there is a bit of sediment... so will rack it first.
                                Thanks Hippie
