  • Steam Juicers - More info please!

I know Bob and Biggles have one, and I also know that Zeb, like myself is thinking about getting one, but I'd like to know more about the pros and cons of steam juicers.

I've seen one in Lakeland that is a stainless steel one (Zeb - take note!) that I am yearning for for Xmas. It seems like a pretty expensive toy if it's not worth the money. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/preserving.../product/11636

I love fruity wines, so it seems like a good investment, but I really need to know if you guys think it's worth the money? and what else would you use it for apart from wine making?

And one last question; if you pre-soak dried fruit, ie elderberries or sloes to rehydrate them, can you then use the juice extractor on them, or am I being blonde?

I popped into Lakeland to have a look at it..

1st thought that struck me was , It's smaller than I imagined.
After reading Bob's comments that 6lb of elderberries are needed (instead of 4lb by normal methods) I'm not sure if it would hold all the fruit in one go.
So if you had to do it in two batches, how long (time wise) are we looking at to get enough juice to make one gallon ?

      Good question tho...

Most places seem to be selling these for around £100 so the Lakeland deal seems ok. There is a guy on ebay selling them but he is in Germany, postage to UK £14.90.

Well I am now the proud owner of one of these beasts.

Had a morning playing with it. I now have 5 ltrs Blackberry juice and 2 ltrs Elderberry juice.
Would have had more, but 'er in doors' wanted her kitchen back.
