bramble & elderberry

  • bramble & elderberry

    need to get 5 gallon, but only have 6 gallon fermenters. have 15lb elderberries and 15 lb bramble at present both in seperate 6 gallon fermenters, whats the best way of doing this initial ferments seperate then join. or mix and split now. yeast not added yet

    Kamper, Its easier to mix the 2 together then adjust your acid etc so its the same when you split them into your primaries, you are going to have agood bit of pulp so make more than 5 gallons of must. GooD luck. Crackedcork

      thanks i know which is why it need split as dont have one primary big enough

          I get away with a lot, but that may be pushing it tooooooo farrrrr! must get a bigger primary

              have 5 gal better bottle so prob is with initial ferment with 30lb fruit and only 6 gal primaries. would there be prob with initially fermenting elderberry and bramble separate then joining. this would allow 4 days on pulp for elderberries and 7 for bramble

                I follow where you're coming from here. I currently have sloe gin on the go, and my 5gall DJ is about 2 inches from the neck and it's only got 16lb of sloes, 2 gallons of gin and 3lb 8oz of sugar in it. I'm gonna have to start another batch to use up the last 4lb of sloes in the freezer....ha, maybe I might try a "sloe melomel" though, that can be done in a 2 gallon bucket to start with, until I take it off the fruit........
