just been given 50 odd bunches grapes have crushed an sulphided they have an sg of 1050 and shows about 7-8 ltrs. no idea what grapes they are, so its a try it and see. how much sugar should i add to get to 1080

How about half a kilo and then retest, that should give you some idea of the likely amount you'll need.....

if there is 7-8 ltr with skins this would equate to less than 5 ltr juice so 3/4 ld sugar should take 5ltr up by .027 giving 1.077

sorry Ian I thought you meant 7-8 litres of juice
then you likely have around 1 gal juice after removal of pulp
then 8 0z wul lift you 0.018 so 1 lb (454 g) of sugar will be enough i think...lifting your SG by 0.038 taking you to 1.088N.G.W.B.J.
